Time for the Exchange students to Return to Germany
After a very late night, we had to get up early on Friday morning in order to get Lisa back to the Gilberd school to meet her fellow students to get the coach for home.
We set off at 8:10am to get to school for 8:15am. The coach was already there and waiting. Some of the students had arrived too and others who go to the school stood watching. Photos were taken and hugs were given all round by the German and English students. There were a few group photos taken too.
It was all quite emotional for everyone involved and tears had started to flow, not only amongst both groups of students, but parents as well. Some parents left before the coach departed, but myself and a few others remained until the end.
As the students started to board the coach, more hugs were given and more tears flowed. Once on board they started waving and we all waved back. The coach pulled away and tooted its horn and all the studens were waving frantically, and some of the German students were taking photos through the windows. Our students ran round to the road and waited for the coach to come past and all the waving started again and the German students waved back and carried on so as they went past and those at the back turned round to wave as they continued down the road.
All our students hugged each other and it was so lovely to see the emotion and how they all shared in it.
Then Mr Reader said it was time they went to class and I hugged Tiff and her friends and went home on my own. That’s it now, the German Exchange is over until they do it again in two years time, with different students taking part.
