How Things Are Going

Hi I am back with another installment. Well after running two 10k’s in a week, I had managed to injure my hip. Not very pleasant as it was quite painful. I think it was really just doing too much over a period of time. I went to the gym and was given some exercises to do to strengthen the hip muscles and hopefully not suffer anymore pain. I was also told to stay off running for a week to let things settle down.

After doing all of this I decided that Monday was the day to start a gentle jog to see how things went. I took Tiffany with me and we just ran a gentle 1.4 miles at a pace to suit her. I felt comfortable but not at all like I had actually been out running as I was not even breaking into a sweat by the time we got home again. I was very pleased with how Tiff took to the run and she said she wants to do it again. Watch this space………

Yesterday I decided to try a 5k and David wanted to go out too, so off we went together. He asked me to set the pace and I noticed it was a bit too fast for him so slowed down to a more suitable pace for him. We did the 5k and he only needed about a 20 second breather to correct his breathing, so it was a good run for him. It was fine for me as I had had a week off and it is amazing how you notice it when you start again. My hip was a bit sore but not too bad, but I don’t think I will be doing a 10k for a couple of weeks yet.

Today I decided to do a bit of interval training to speed me up a bit in time for May’s Race for life. I started off with a warm up and then used lamposts to set my speed targets. I was pleased with how it went. It was not as fast as my fastest mile but it was ok. I only ran for 1.39 miles but as it was interval training it was actually quite hard work and I felt that I had run further than I had. It made me feel good afterwards though and I was very relaxed and refreshed. I certainly recommend a jog if you are feeling down as the change of scenery and the heart pumping really does feel refreshing. It is also free and very rewarding.

James has been having swimming lessons all week at the Leisure Centre. The classes are with trainee instructors so the classes are very small. He has really enjoyed it and has learned quite a lot. He is a very good swimmer anyway, but the lessons will make him stronger and better. He will be back to football on Monday as the swimming was only for this half term week.

Well that’s all I have for now. We don’t have any plans as yet for over the weekend except a visit to the gym on Saturday afternoon. I won’t be running there, just having a bit of a workout to keep toned. I must admit that I havent really been this week except to yoga on Wednesday. Never mind, I deserved the week off.
