Running Update.

It’s not long now for the Race for Life. Only a couple of weeks to go. I am looking forward to the atmosphere again and to taking part in such a worthy cause.

I have been running three times a week still. David has joined me a few times and he has improved so much. He should be very proud as asthma is a big hindrance for most people when it comes to physical exercise. Well done on your achievements David.

Last Sunday David and I went out for a run together. He said he wanted to do 5.5 miles so I said ok. We started out doing our usual run and I suggested going all the way down Ipswich Road as it would give that litltle bit more distance instead of cutting down near Office World. It was a very pleasant run and I wasn’t really pushing myself as I didn’t want to set a too fast a pace for David. To cut a long story short, David ran a very good 5.75 miles which is more than he wanted to achieve and I decided to carry on to see how far I could go. In the end I was so pleased as I managed to run 9.11 miles in 1hour and 25 minutes. I was just starting to feel a bit sick as I was starting to dehydrate and the day was getting warmer. I decided that was enough for that day. It’s the longest run I have done so far and I did pick up the pace once I was on my own. I don’t know if I could have quite made the 10 miles but that is my next target. In a few weeks time I will give it a go and see what happens. I am very happy with what I have achieved and aim to do a half marathon later in the year.

I am still running with the club and am enjoying that very much. I am hoping to be able to run the whole year without any injuries now that I am trying to use the Chi-running technique. I conciously make the effort to think about what I have learned from the book. I will admit that I sometimes forget what I am doing as my mind wanders off when I am running. I have no idea where it wanders to, but it happens. I suddenly realise and try to re-focus on what I am doing. It really has helped with getting my breathing and pace in sync so I feel less tired and less breathless. I usually feel good after a run. Maybe you all who read this should give it a go. You might be pleasantly surprised. Well I think that is all my news for now. I will try to write again more regularly ( she says!!). Bye for now.
