Running set back

I am not a very happy runner at the moment. Three weeks ago, I sustained a groin injury which was aggravated tripping over a tree root in some woods I was running through with some club members. By the end of that run I could barely walk let alone run.

I thought that resting up on holiday would be enough to make it better and to be able to resume running when I got back. I was wrong of course and I was disappointed in having to pull out of a race this weekend.

I have itchy feet and want to run. I have tried a couple of times this week but it pulls before I get very far down the road. I am angry as I want to get going and I can’t. It is very frustrating!! I was doing so well and was enjoying my running. I was keeping up with some of the fastest members of our group and now I know when I get back, I will be behind again. It takes so long to build up your fitness and speed and only such a short time to lose it again.

I have been keeping in touch with friends at the club to see how they are doing and which races they are doing. I want to be fit for a race in two weeks time. It is only a 10k so not too far. I am going to contact a Physiotherapist on Wednesday if I can’t get further down the road tomorrow. GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Groin, hip, knee injuries are the worst. You know that you need to wait because running early before healed just make it worst. I am going through a back and knee issue and found that if I try one type of cross training that I always want to do but never have a chance to - it eases the pain. Good luck and hang in there!

Thanks for that Amy. I will try cycling for a bit and maybe some swimming even though it is not my favourite sport.
