New diet

3rd January 2006

This weekend will see a restart in my attempts to control my weight.

I found Paul McKenna “I Can Make You Thin” very easy to follow last year, and I still don’t really know why I fell off the wagon. So, I will be restarting it, hopefully inspired and motivated by the new TV series on Sky One, imaginatively called “Paul McKenna Can Make You Thin”!!

Also, I will be restarting a more serious drive toward physical fitness by increasing my swimming sessions back to three times a week ready for this years Swimathon.

    Falling off the wagon

The build up was that I had lost a lot of weight, and had calculated that, at the rate I was losing it, it would take many more months to get to my target weight. I had a big birthday bash and a holiday where I decided to “just let my hair down” and enjoy myself.

Like any addictive thing, smoking, drinking, or whatever, it was a fatal mistake. I started eating like I used to, before. It’s only recently that I have been finding any motivation to start again.

The weight loss program was so easy to do, with no issues at all – not hungry, not bored with the food, not craving and having no desire to cheat or sneak extra. I would love to understand where the desire to give it up for my holidays came from. And then, why I couldn’t be bothered to start it up again afterwards. I have an inkling that I may have been finding excuses not to take 30 minutes to re-listen to the CD regularly enough, since I was very busy.

I think it is very plausible for it to be a long term thing, since there were no real issues with dedication and effort. The only effort involved is not letting some long term habitual psychological issue trip you up while you’re not paying attention!

Thanks for your questions! They helped me re-evaluate how I am going to restart things today.

    Paul Mckenna - Weight Loss

    Hi David,

I was very interested to read about your experience with Paul Mckenna’s Weight Loss programme. My fiance is struggling with his weight and I am trying to give him as much support as possible. I would like to get this for him if it is something you really would recommend. If you don’t mind me asking, why was it that you got distracted from it before? Does it take a lot of dedication? Is it helpful for use as an ongoing thing or is it a temporary fix?

If you can help me with any of my questions I would be very grateful.

    regards,
    Louise

Is this more than a 'diet' - in fact a way of life?

Hi & well done for getting back into it!

Can you tell me if it gets any less ‘consciuous’ as you go along and more sub-conscious. I suppose I am asking if it gets easier? I have been ‘changing my habits’ for just 3 days now, so probably I am not qualified to talk but I think we have to see this less of a diet than a way of living. Do you agree or is that just naive?

Indeed it is It does get less conscious,

Indeed it is It does get less conscious, as following the rules becomes more of a habit. You have inspired me to write a whole new entry on my blog about diets vs lifestyle, so you can see the rest of my answer there.
