Tapering off weight loss

6th February 2007

Since I am approaching my target weight, I have changed my plan from losing 2lb per week to losing 1lb per week. The idea is that I don’t hit my target weight and suddenly change the amount I eat, instead I am gradually increasing the amount I eat as I get closer to my goal.

Ha, ha! This change meant an increase of 500 calories per day, which is 40% more than I was eating before. I have been struggling for the last few days to eat the required amount. What makes it worse, is that the extra food tends to be the less healthy options – you can’t squeeze many extra calories into a meal consisting of pork chops, boiled potatoes, broccoli and carrot, the simple choice is to have a dessert, which tends to be fat and sugar and yummy things like that.

Overnight, my body has responded to this by putting on a little weight which feels like water retention and “waste”. I’m going to keep with the plan for a few more days to see how it goes.

I’m so glad that I am phasing out the weight loss part of my diet as just imagine what trying to cope with 1000 extra calories per day after 6 months would be like!
