Fat gene

I’m really glad that this news wasn’t going around 6 months ago, since I would have almost certainly used it as an excuse for being overweight and stopped attempting to lose it.

It is interesting to note that they are only claiming that about 7lb of the amount someone is overweight could be attributed to this gene, and I’m sure that most obese people will be far more overweight than that.

By the BMI calculation I am still about 14lb overweight, but with a 32” waist I am not worried.

Frustating News

This evening we watched the ITV news while waiting for dinner to cook, and since the election looms they were having their usual election related reporting. Nick Robinson, Political Editor for ITV News was reporting on Labours claims that the Conservative manifesto promises could only be met by a massive £50 billion increase in public spending. The point at which my opinion of the quality of reporting plummeted was when Mr. Robinson said “Mr. Brown proved that the Conservatives…”. Proved? Ok, where’s the proof? Can I get a copy? Has it been verified?

So, I decided to go to ITV News to find out more on this contentious statement. Is this story on their website? But, it dominated the election reporting, surely it is on their web site. No, it isn’t.

With this level of sloppy, even emotionally loaded, language how can we trust anything we’re being told? I’m going to pay more attention to news reports now, and comment on what I hear.
