Strictly Come Dancing
Although we are not ballroom dancers, having only taken a few basic lessons XX years ago, we are avid viewers of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
We really admire the contestants and the hard work they put in to training each week in order to put on a decent performance. We also admire the professionals in the way that they instal their invaluable knowledge into their partners and get them to, in the main, give a brilliant performance.
90% of the time we agree with the judges comments, although we do think that sometimes they are a bit too hard and rude and have a tendency to forget that they are not judging professionals but that is television. In this current series we feel that the final leader board after the judges voting is a fair and accurate summing up of the performances given.
However, and this is a big however, we disagree totally that the phone lines opening immediately following a show for viewers to vote for the elimination of the following week’s contestant.
What is the voting all about? How can anybody fairly place a vote until they have actually seen the performance? If people are voting for a person regardless of performance, why bother with a performance? Why not just dress the celebs up and stand them in a line and say vote for your favourite person?
And where are the general public coming from, that for 3 weeks running they can possibly vote for Fiona Phillips who was very fairly voted as worst performer by the judges each week and in fact gives a poorer performance than a wooden doll. Are they just taking the proverbial ‘p’?
Do these unfair viewers ever think it might just be a little unfair to the other contestants to make a stupid vote and thus eliminate a better performer? The outcome even makes us wonder if the results of the viewers voting is genuine!
And poor Brendan Cole. He must pray avidly that they will be eliminated to save him the gruelling rehearsals with a non-committed prima donna and to save himself further embarrassment and danger to his brilliant career.
If Fiona Phillips had an ounce of decency in her she would retire gracefully and give the more committed contestants a fairer chance.
Come on you people vote fairly for a change!

I agree with a lot of what you say – the voting system seems bizarre i agree….i am sure there is an element of keeping the person in who is most entertaining (regardless of talent – improvement etc)..which obviously explains Fiona’s returning each week….I feel that the whole programme is ‘master minded’ for entertainment purposes by the company that prodcue the programme….and voting is irrelevent. The voting is just a money spinner for the makers of the programme.
Regarding Brendan Cole (the most obnoxious and arrogant man ever to tread the boards)…I am sure he will make the most of any situation that he finds himself in and i think your sympathy for him is misplaced..

So Fiona is finally out – hooray! She admitted she couldn’t dance and it must have been painful for the gorgeous, delectable, masculine Brendan to be held back but such a spineless dead weight. I disagree that Brendan is obnoxious and as for arrogant, show me a man who isn’t.

Brendan…obnoxious and arrogant? Has it ever occured to you that the bbc is repsonsible for some very clever editing? I happen to know that there are other dancers who have bigger ego’s, but that never gets shown, because of the media being so intent on painting Brendan as ‘the bad boy.’He wears his heart on his sleeve, he’s a passionate, emotional guy. Yes, sometimes he may be wrong, but his passion is what makes him the person he is.
To all you who think he is arrogant/conceited…I’d say one thing, meet him, then you can make a real judgement.
