Back Home Again in Spain!

Yes, it really does feel like we are coming home when we return to Spain!

We arrived back at Alicante at 9.30ish on Wednesday night to a temperature of 24 degrees and it felt really warm. When we arrived at our villa up the mountain at 11pm the temperature was a bit cooler, only 22 degrees! but still plenty warm enough to sit out on the terrace for a drink before bed. We left the cover off the pool while we were away to make cleaning easier for friends that kindly took care of it. Surprisingly the pool temperature is still 22 degrees so still OK for swimming.

After the cruise, we enjoyed the remaining 10 days we spent in the UK. Of course we had hospital and doctor’s checks to go to but mostly they all gave good news. The only real downside was being told my cholesterol was up to 6mmol whereas the test in Spain in August had showed in down to 4.97 so it looks like I can’t avoid taking the tablets after all.

While in the UK we had lovely weather for the time of year so when we visited the family we were able to sit out in their gardens with them during the day. We spent a lovely 2 days with son David, daughter-in-law Alison and grandkids Tiff and James. 5-year-old James is always particularly a great pleasure to see as he is such a little gem – he played football with Grandad and read his school books to me. He has given up on us playing on his game cube with us as ‘we are too slow!’. We had a carry out on Thursday night, a pub lunch on Friday and Alison cooked a lovely meal in the evening. We then went straight from them to spend 2 days with daughter Sally, and grandkids Matt and Rob. Sally cooked a yummy meal on Saturday and on the Sunday it was Rob’s birthday when we were joined by Sally’s young man Scott and his daughters Katie and Holly. We went bowling and it was a bit of a let down when all but one of the children beat us both. In fact I was 2nd from bottom on the score card only beating a 7-year-old! Never mind though, it was great fun! We then went for lunch at ‘Frankie and Benny’s’ and again it was delicious. Rob was embarrassed when the ‘bear’ came out with a cake and everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday’. I think she would have been disappointed if it hadn’t happened though!

Back to our home in Warboys on Sunday night. Then out again for a another lovely lunch at The Windmill in Somersham on Monday with our dear friends Pam and Bob. On Tuesday it was up to Norwich to see Pete’s Mum and take her out for yet another lunch. I thought we had wined and dined to excess on the cruise but obviously hadn’t so I think it’s back to watching the diet now we are back in Spain.

On Thursday we did the usual chores necessary when we have been away – the unpacking and the outside cleaning of the terraces. Today we have chilled out and relaxed to recover from our holiday in Norway and all our visiting in the UK before we get back to the socialising in Spain.

That’s all for now folks!
